Cellulite Removal Tips & Advice
“Get Rid of Cellulite - Prevention and Removal Tips”
Cellulite removal is a topic on many women’s minds. I get many requests for help with cellulite- you want to know my advice on what works and what does not, as well as any tips I may have learned over the years to help you get rid of or avoid cellulite altogether. Here, I have assembled what I know from both research and talking to those who have been there, done that.
The thing you most need to know before we even talk about cellulite removal is what cellulite actually is. It is not ‘regular fat’ that you can just get rid of by running or strength training. Once you have cellulite, no amount of cardiovascular workouts or toning exercises can get rid of it- although they can improve cellulite’s appearance.
Getting rid of cellulite is difficult, because cellulite is persistent subcutaneous fat that is basically trapped between the layers of skin, causing the dimpling effect. Since it is trapped, it’s harder to get rid of cellulite than it is to get rid of other fat in your body.
There are some options out there, though, so do not give up!
A cellulite cream is one way to start getting rid of cellulite, if you want to start at home, inexpensively. You can find these creams pretty much everywhere these days. Both high end department stores and mass market retailers carry them, and you can also find cellulite creams all over the internet- from specialty boutique sites to large e-tailers like Amazon. Do they work, though, is the question. The answer is yes and no.
I know, now you are frustrated all over again, but you don’t have to be, I will be happy to explain. The ‘yes’ part of my answer is good news. Some of the creams do work- in the short term. Most of these cellulite creams are formulated with caffeine and aminophylline which will begin to work on the dimpled look almost immediately. The caffeine and aminophylline draws the skin tighter, smoothing it out, and getting rid of the cellulite.
So, what is the best cellulite cream? After my 3 month test of the top 10 cellulite creams, a product call Revitol Cellulite Solution was clearly the best cellulite cream. Revitol deserved to be rated #1 just because it worked so much better than the other products. At this time they are offering up to 34% off when you order more than 1 tube.
Dr. Oz also recommended creams with caffeine and Retinol A to get rid of cellulite. You can watch the episode here: “Dr. Oz show about cellulite”.
Medical Cellulite Treatments
Other ways to get rid of cellulite include VelaSmooth or VelaShape. These two cellulite treatments are normally done at a Med Spa or Cosmetic Surgeon’s office, and are non-surgical. The treatments result in smoother, tighter skin which helps to minimize the look of cellulite. The FDA approved these treatments in 2004 and 2007, respectively, and they have become very popular since then. They are commonly used on the stomach and buttocks to get rid of cellulite.
VelaShape & VelaSmooth
VelaShape uses patented bi-polar radio frequency energy and light frequency as well as vacuum suctioning for cellulite removal. The heat coupled with the suction causes the cells to shrink in size and smooth the skin. The treatments can be quite pricey, as they run anywhere from $300 to $600 each, and you need four to six treatments, about a week apart.
Then, you will need maintenance treatments anywhere from six months to a year later, depending upon your health habits. If you exercise and eat right, you should be able to maintain a cellulite-free look for about a year.
VelaSmooth is another treatment for cellulite that is very similar to VelaShape. The main difference is that VelaShape is more powerful, as it came on the market a few years later and employs a more advanced technology.
One of the best cellulite treatments, long term, is liposuction. However, getting rid of cellulite with liposuction is invasive and requires downtime. It is also a bit pricey and has been reported to have some dangerous side effects. So, while it may be better long term, it is important to think through the potential risks before you decide on this path. Consult with a doctor and make sure you know what you are getting into.
New cellulite removal techniques are now on the market, such as Cool Sculpting by Zeltiq. This treatment is another non-invasive way to get rid of cellulite. Basically, it kills the fat cells by freezing them. Gradually, over about four to six weeks, you see a drastic result in the cellulite.
There is no recovery time and the procedure is painless- a device is positioned on your body (this is best for areas of the back or abdomen) and then a vacuum-like process begins. It draws your fat bulge up between two cool panels, killing the fat cells. It takes about an hour, but you can bring a book! Seek out a cosmetic surgeon for more details.
Diet and Exercise
While it is true that you cannot truly achieve complete cellulite removal through diet and exercise, you can affect it. Getting rid of cellulite can be aided by these two things. Eat a diet that is low in salt to keep your skin supple and smooth. Drink plenty of water. Eat healthy- fruits and vegetables keep the skin healthy and cutting back on fatty foods and sugars will keep you from storing any more fat- as will exercise.
Strength training keeps the body burning fat all day long, and cardiovascular exercise will help to burn stored fat, aiding in cellulite removal. Do these things and see a smoother, suppler body soon!
Best Cellulite Cream
The best cellulite cream, based upon my reviews and other reviews is Revitol (this was also the top pick in a study I did when I tested 10 cellulite creams-the article can be found below) This cellulite cream really will help in the removal of cellulite, but you be the judge! Revitol will show smoother skin in as little as 16 days. See if it works for you. Remember to keep applying and chart your progress.
